UANYCHM2020 Week 1
I decided to ease back into action as soon as the post-marathon soreness subsided (4 days after). There's also a change of "personnel", Polar Vantage V is out. Garmin 935, you're back on!
I just realized that Garmin released Garmin Coach last year. How did I miss that?! Curiosity got me, I chose the HM plan with Coach Amy. After answering a few background question, I was on a new HM Adaptive plan.
Week 1 looks pretty easy. Since it's more than 16 weeks from my goal race (19 weeks to March 15), I figured this is probably base building phase. I'd have to do 3 workouts this week:
- Benchmark run: 2 mins WU; 5 mins run strong, walk if you need to (a bit vague); 2 mins CD
- Easy run: 2 mins WU; 4 miles 9:26-9:56/mile; 2 mins CD
- Run: 2 mins WU; 8 miles 9:26-9:56/mile; 2 mins CD
Yep it's easy.
So first week went fine. I completed all 3 workouts as planned with "Good job!" from Coach Amy.
W1D1 Benchmark run I completed the 5 mins portion at 7:02/mile
W1D2 Easy run Completed the 4 miler at an average page of 9:28/mile, a bit on the fast end of the prescribed range
W1D3 Run Completed the 8 miler at an average pace of 9:40/mile, right on target
To be honest though, getting off a 38-mile week to this load is a bit too light. Yes I know I need to be patient and this is only base building but it's definitely lacking. Week 2 will have 4 workouts with the total mileage of 15 (4+3+2+6). I don't know, I might abandon this plan for another one.
